I did this with two 1.2 - 1.5k stacks with 2 loose heroes and double/tripled stacked each fight, only lost 3-4 units total. There is plenty of time to clear nodes as long as you don't have to cross mountains etc. Make sure the required ops are primed by the time you get to the objectives.
Use forward bases and sectors to make roads to the objective locations as you will be making a few trips back and forth. Reroll the map to get a strong starting resources and save it, you can reload after you lose or see more clearly what you need to do (Thanks to LordMakanaki) - Also wouldn't hurt to save if you make good progress and save scum using when using ops just in case. Some More tips - Make sure Difficulty is set to High. First Research should be -Military- Synthesis Integration then Daemon Deployment (for Internal System Overload Hack) -Society- Area Surveillance up to Intelligence Gathering (for Infiltrate Operations Centre) -Then either Operational Effectiveness (Thanks to LordMakanaki) or whatever combat mod/units you prefer. You will however have to be somewhat quick up to that point as the AI will eventually bump into your empire and start the initial countdown. Note: There is a point near the end of the mission where the covert countdown timer will stop in order for you to complete the last objective.
